Essential Duties
  • Manage preschool classroom, following best practices and all required regulations.
  • Follow a curriculum provided by the Center; supplementing appropriate activities which includes weekly changes to the environment using age-appropriate resources.
  • Observe and assess student progress and communicate progress and developmental concerns with families; assist families in navigating the next steps, including reaching out to Early Intervention, the School District, and other relevant resources.
  • Communicate effectively with families and staff regarding classroom activities, milestones, behavioral concerns, etc.; relay and document any incidents/accidents in accordance with MS Childcare licensure regulations.
  • Serve as a mentor teacher for residency, internship, and practicum placements for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, MSU and other institutions as designated.
  • Collect data for NAEYC portfolios which includes evidence of best practices in childcare.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, organized, and clean classroom environment.
  • Record and report classroom attendance in accordance with MDHS Licensure and CACFP requirements.
  • Complete all necessary professional development training.
  • Supervise student workers in the classroom.
  • Document daily hours worked to for biweekly payroll accuracy per Center procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • The equivalency to an associate’s degree (AA) in early childhood education, which is defined by NAEYC as at least 60 college/university credits with at least 30 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education. Transcripts documenting (highlight credits): at least 60 college/university credits INCLUDING at least 30 credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education or any field related to understanding to the job duties
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, human development, family studies or related field; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 36 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education
Experience:
  • Requires more than 1 year of experience working in a licensed, high-quality child care facility required; with preference in a high quality educational preschool environment; including others operating as a laboratory school with practicum students or with national NAEYC accreditation; 3 years preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Must be qualified to act as a Director Designee as per MDHS licensure standards
  • Must have First Aid/CPR/AED training; or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire
  • Must have current Letter of Suitability for Mississippi Childcare (in addition to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ background check); or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Assessment and observation skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with MS Early Learning Standards
  • Experience with NAEYC
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and connections with children, families, and staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate with families via Brighthwheel or other childcare management software
  • Ability to take pictures with the IPad for Brightwheel and NAEYC documentation

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will regularly be working in outdoor weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level is moderate to loud.
Job Description Summary
Child and Parent Development Center (CPDC) Teachers are responsible for the supervision and overall management of their classrooms including maintaining materials and room arrangements in compliance with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards and Mississippi Department of Human Services (MSDH) Childcare Licensure Regulations. Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practice and best practices in early childhood settings.

This position is part-time 6.75 hours per day, 33.75 per week. Hours are 7:15 am – 2:30 pm with a 30 minute lunch break.
